Adsorption of Proteins at Solid-Liquid Interfaces

This paper concisely rev iews the general principles underlying protein adsorption from aqueous so lution onto a solid surface. The discussion includes the various stages of the adsorption process, i. e., transport o f the protein molecules towards the su rface, the absorbed amount under equilibrium conditions, desorption andreadsorption. Among the interactions that determine the overall protei...

Adsorption phenomena at organic-inorganic interfaces

The qualitative solventand temperature-dependent conformational behavior of a peptide in the proximity of solid substrates with different adsorption properties is investigated by means of a simple lattice model. The resulting pseudophase diagrams exhibit a complex structure, which can be understood by analysing the minima of the free-energy landscape in dependence of appropriate system parameters.

DNA adsorption at liquid/solid interfaces.

DNA adsorption on solid or liquid surfaces is a topic of broad fundamental and applied interest. Here, we study by X-ray reflectivity the adsorption of monodisperse double-stranded DNA molecules on a positively charged surface, obtained through chemical grafting of a homogeneous organic monomolecular layer of N-(2-aminoethyl) dodecanamide on an oxide-free monocrystalline Si(111) wafer. The adso...

Predicting Adsorption Coefficients at Air Water Interfaces Using Universal Solvation and Surface Area Models

Vapor-phase molecules are adsorbed at air-water interfaces to a much greater extent than can be explained by air-water partition coefficients, indicating that interface adsorption can play an important role, and this can be very important for environmental phenomena. On the basis of a statistical thermodynamic analysis, we separate the observable free energy of adsorption into a dimensionality ...
